Pasta Party Schedule
Parents,
For those of you parents who are new to cross country, the pasta parties serve as an opportunity for the students to get together and share a meal/hang out the day before each of our meets. The family that hosts can expect ~25 students. I would like to try something a little bit new for the rest of our pasta parties this year. At the end of this post you will find a link to a google document that can be modified by anyone who has the link (I will also send it to parent email addresses later today or tomorrow). If all parents could sign up for one or a few of the different slots this would take some of the responsibility off of the students for volunteering each week and we can have a set schedule. This will also allow you as parents to sign up for the items and days that work best for you. Our most immediate need will be for this Wednesday before our Pre-Region Meet.
If you sign up to be a host, please include your address and phone number as well as the time you would like the pasta party to start (generally 5:00-6:00ish). If you sign up for sides you can send those with your athlete or drop them off yourself. You could also contact the host parent and see if they could use any other assistance. We have a great group of athletes on the team and this is a fantastic way to show your support. Thank you for all of your help and especially to those of you willing to open up your homes to the students. Pasta parties are a wonderful thing for the students and I remember how much fun they were when I was in high school. The team can provide the host family with paper products to use (if desired) and those will be sent home with the athlete the day of the party. Coaches will generally not attend the parties as it is intended to be for the athletes, and I see this as a great way for me to take step back and also get parents involved. Please let me know if you have questions/concerns about this process.

Highland Invite (Friday)
Our team has its first meet this Friday, August 24th at Sugarhouse Park. Athletes must have completed all eligibility requirements prior to Thursday morning to compete. Athletes will be expected to arrive between 3:00 and 4:00 depending on their race time. Tomorrow at practice athletes will be assigned a race and given a team uniform if they are eligible. The race schedule is as follows:
Girls 9th/10th-4:00
Boys 9th/10th-4:15
Girls JV-4:45
Boys JV-5:00
Girls V-5:30
Boys V-5:45
Awards-6:15 (Awards will be given to the first 15 individuals in each race and the top 2 varsity teams)
Athletes should arrive at least 1 hr. prior to their race. All athletes need to arrive by 4:00 to cheer on their teammates. Athletes should make every effort to stay through the Boys Varsity races as we start to learn what it means to be a team striving for excellence together! I know there are some unavoidable conflicts Friday, but let's minimize such conflicts in the future. Cross country is a team sport where each individual counts, and we want to show our teammates that we value their effort and performances.

August 20-23
Next week practice will be switching to the afternoon. Due to teacher meetings, practice will run from 3:00 to 5:00. This will also allow for the team to acclimate to the heat prior to our first race at Sugarhouse Park on Friday the 24th. It will be especially important for everyone to be hydrating throughout the day in preparation for these afternoon practices. See you tomorrow for the last morning practice.

Millcreek Trail Run
Tomorrow's practice will be a trail run in Millcreek Canyon. We will be running on the Pipeline trail. Even though it is a short drive from school, athletes must have their transportation form submitted to participate. We will leave from school at 8:00 and return as close to 10:00 as possible. Parents may also drive their athlete to and from the trailhead if no transportation waiver has been submitted. The run will begin at the second trailhead for the Pipeline (a few miles up the canyon).
